THE BIRTH OF AFRICAN RELIGIOUS LEADERS

This religion varies from community to community

Every community has its own leader of African Traditional Religion.

This means there is no single leader or founder of this religion. Pupils can now learn

the birth history of an African Traditional Religious leader in their community. Our studies will

look at the birth and early life of Okomfo Anokye, who was an African Traditional Religious Leader of the Olden day Asante Kingdom .

Okomfo Anokye

Okomfo Anokye was the greatest Traditional priest in the history of Ghana.

He was not the founder of African Traditional Religion in Ghana, His father was Agya Annor. His mother was Maame Nkobe, His parents were farmers. Okomfo Anokye was born in the year 1640, He came from Awukugua in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Okomfo Anokye was the fourth chief of Agona in the Ashanti Region.

His real name was Kwame Agyei Frimpong. Other people call him Frimpong Manson

Okomfo Anokye was a good friend of Nana Osei Tutu l , the then Asantehene. He did a lot of miracles for the Asantes.

Many people have great stories about him.

He commanded the golden stool of the Asantes from the sky.

He is strongly recognized in the history of Asante’s kingdom as the greatest traditional priest ever.
