Our school compound is an environment. Our rooms, our communities, homes and other places are our environment.
It is important to keep our environment clean in order to avoid diseases.
Germs live in dirty and unclean environments. Germs cause many diseases and sickness.
If we do not keep our environment clean, we may suffer from illnesses such malaria. cholera, typhoid and many more.
If we keep our environment clean, we will live a healthy life.

Ways of keeping the environment clean

What tools do you use to clean your classroom and your compound?
Let us look at some equipment for cleaning our homes and schools.
Some of the ways we can keep our environment clean.
We use brooms for sweeping our homes and , school compounds. Sweeping makes our compounds clean. After sweeping we use the dust pan to collect rubbish from the floor. Remember to wear a nose mask when sweeping a dusty compound to avoid catching cold.
2. Mopping
Mopping is done by wiping the floor with water, soap and a rag or a mop. We normally mop tiled floors and cemented floors. Mopping helps to keep the floor clean and sparkling.
- Weeding
Weeding is a method of cutting down grasses and removing unwanted plants from the compound.
Weeding prevents animals such as snakes, rats and mosquitoes from hiding in the weeds. We use cutlasses and hoes to weed our compounds.
4. Dusting
When we use clean rags to remove dust from things, we call it dusting. Dusting keeps surfaces clean all the time.
Always remember to wear a nose mask when lusting to avoid catching cold.
Scrubbing is done to remove stains and dirts. We use the scrubbing brush, water and soap to scrub our bathhouse, toilet and other places.

6.Cleaning the toiletÂ
Any time we visit the toilet, we must make sure to flush it before leaving the place. We must also clean the toilet all the time to make it smell good and attractive to use. Keeping the toilet clean always will prevent germs, flies and cockroaches from growing in it and causing infections.
 7. HooveringÂ
Hoovering is done to remove dust particles in woolen carpets. We use a machine called a hoover to remove dust particles from our woolen carpets, mats and areas that are difficult to reach when sweeping.

8. Cleaning the ceiling .
We use the ceiling brush to remove cobwebs from the ceiling and the corners of walls. This makes the ceiling clean.Â

9.Cleaning the gutters
We should always clean our gutters to remove rubbish collected in it .It is important to clean our gutters in other to avoid bad smell and allow free flow of water .Cleaning our gutters will also prevent mosquitoes from breeding in them.
