BASIC 6 CREATIVE ARTS – FIRST TERM 

STRAND 1: VISUAL ARTS

Sub-Strand: Thinking and Exploring Ideas

WEEK 1

  • Learn how to create your own art ideas from:

    • People and their history

    • Culture (how people live, dress, dance, etc.)

    • The environment (trees, rivers, animals, houses)

    • Current issues (things happening in Ghana and the world)

  • Example: Drawing a farmer to show farming culture.

WEEK 3

  • Study artworks of international visual artists (famous artists in other countries).

  • Ask: How do their works show the history and culture of their people?

  • Example: An artist in China paints dragons to show their culture.

  • After studying, create your own artwork based on your ideas.

WEEK 5

  • Look at artworks that show the physical environment (mountains, rivers, trees, houses).

  • Also artworks that show the social environment (people working together, festivals, schools).

WEEK 7

  • Now try to design and create your own visual artwork from what you see in your environment.

  • Example: Drawing school children cleaning the compound.

WEEK 9

  • Study artworks that show topical issues (important matters happening now).

  • Example: Painting about “Stop Galamsey” or “Keep Ghana Clean.”

WEEK 11

  • Brainstorm (think together) and create your own artwork about topical issues.

  • Example: Designing a poster on “Say No to Child Labour.”


STRAND 2: PERFORMING ARTS

Sub-Strand: Thinking and Exploring Ideas

WEEK 2

  • Explore works of international performing artists (musicians, dancers, drama actors).

  • Ask: How do their songs, dances, or plays show their history and culture?

  • Example: Reggae music shows Jamaican culture.

WEEK 4

  • Study how performing arts (music, drama, dance) reflect culture.

  • Then create your own drama, song, or dance from what you learn.

WEEK 6

  • Look at performing arts that show the physical and social environment.

  • Example: A dance about rain, or a play about family love.

WEEK 8

  • Create your own performance (drama, dance, music) about the environment.

  • Example: A song about keeping the beach clean.

WEEK 10

  • Study performing artworks about topical issues.

  • Example: A drama against drug abuse.

WEEK 12

  • Brainstorm and create your own performance on topical issues.

  • Example: A dance or poem about “Peace Before Elections.”
